I really don’t want to give this prize away… but then what would be the point of having a competition? The final prize in the birthday bash giveaway is a limited edition Formula 1 print by talented artist Luke Pollard, and a SciFi.co.uk goody bag.

Luke’s print depicts Jensen Button in his championship winning Brawn GP car and comes mounted, numbered and signed by Luke. Including the mount it measures 40x30cm, and it looks amazing.

Birthday Bash: Win Battlestar Galactica series 1&2 and a SciFi goody bag

I thought the new series of Battlestar Galactica was awesome, despite being one of the ones who was up in arms when they said Starbuck was going to be a woman. I got over that quickly and realised the series was just brilliant in its own right!

Today’s the day!

Geek-Speak is nearly 2 years old!

Time flies when you’re having fun, and I find this a bit hard to believe but on the 28th of February Geek-Speak will be two years old. To celebrate I’ll be running a competition for some cool goodies, and I’m massively indebted to the people who’ve donated some of those!

Let me tell you about them:

SciFi Channel (UK)SciFi Channel (UK) – SciFi Channel is a great place to catch up on science fiction and fantasy, including some shows exclusively on SciFi in the UK like the brilliant Warehouse 13 and a new take on The Wizard of Oz with Tin Man. They’re part of the same network as SyFy in the US, who were behind the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica and new Caprica series’.

SciFi.co.uk compliments the great television available, running competitions, games, a lively forum and a series of blogs. I’ll just point out the blogs again, because I’m a new contributor on there :)

A big thanks to Pete Holley, UK Community Manger for the SciFi Channel for donating five SciFi goody bags to the competition. Each bag contains:

  • Hardback notepad (that I’m reluctant to give away because I love a good notepad!)
  • Fridge magnets
  • Inspiration cards
  • 8-Ball keyring

Motorsport in PrintMotorsport in Print – Luke Pollard is a petrolhead with a real talent for art. He recently quit his day job to become a full-time artist covering all manner of motorsport. Have a look around his site, because the images he’s producing are absolutely amazing. If you’re after some general sporting art (i.e. not motorsport) he does that too, and you can check his twitter feed for that here.

Luke has a unique style that I think will become instantly recognisable as more people get hold of his work. He has very generously donated a 40x30cm mounted print of Formula 1 champion Jensen Button in his 2009 Brawn GP car (check it out here).  It comes individually numbered and signed by Luke.

If you think the print looks good on the site let me tell you it looks even better in the flesh! If you’re a motorsport fan you definitely need to explore Motorsport in Print and you’ll be sure to find something that tickles your fancy.

Kim and Jason - Escape AdulthoodKim and Jason – Kim and Jason Kotecki are on a mission to stamp out the terrible disease Adultitis. Supernatural Season 5 coming soon (with an alternate-reality game, no less)

I don’t normally post on the weekends, but I wanted to get this one out quick!

Season 5 of US TV show “Supernatural” is coming to the UK in February on LIVING.   To spread the news about the new series, LIVING is launching a cross-format alternate reality game (ARG), which will offer one viewer the chance to appear in Supernatural!

Season four ended as Lucifer was freed from hell and season five follows Sam and Dean Winchester as they face their toughest battle yet; the apocalypse.

The ARG is based around collecting hidden symbols – ‘Enochian Sigils’ – which players must locate, photograph and send via MMS to a UK shortcode. Sigils have been hidden online and at real world locations throughout the UK and clues to their locations will be delivered by Castiel (Misha Collins) in specially filmed sequences on the Fight the Apocalypse website. Once located, Sigils are photographed on any mobile device and using Image recognition technology – which recognises any image taken on a mobile phone camera – are uploaded to the player’s profile.

There are two ways of succeeding in the game: locating and photographing Sigils, and building an online army of support. Players can invite friends to join their army via email and through Facebook. All the core functions of the game will be available on the website and on your mobile phone, so you can keep up to date on what’s happening while you’re out and about.

Followers of the Fight the Apocalypse Twitter feed will be given tips and additional mini challenges to win extra prizes, so if you plan to play it’s well worth following that account.

The first clue to start the hunt will be released on the 20th January. Fans can pre-register for the game now at www.luciferiscoming.com.

Win Dark Void on xbox360 and the complete Battlestar Galactica with SciFi channel

SciFi channel, the UK version of SyFy, are giving away a copy of Dark Void on the xbox360 courtesy of Capcom, and the complete series of the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica on DVD. All you have to do to win is play games!

There are five games on the SciFi site that count towards the competition, and the aim is for you to rank on the leaderboard for all five games. You’ll need to have a SciFi account so that your scores can be tracked. You’ll receive a certain number of points depending on where you rank for each game… position 1 being worth 10 points, and position 10 being worth 1. Your total across all five games is used to determine the overall winner of the competition.

I haven’t come across Dark Void before, but the blurb on the competition page says, “Dark Void’s unique combination of jetpack-booster aerial dog fighting and third-person combat creates a thrilling new gameplay dynamic to the third-person shooter experience. Release date for this game is January 22, 2010.”

As for Battlestar Galactica, I thought this was one of the best series I’ve seen in years and it’s worth entering the contest for the BSG box set alone!

The games are all easy enough to get into, but you’ll have to put some effort in to beat those high scores. Give it a go, and if you get a score you’re particularly proud of feel free to boast in the comments! Closing date is the 11th of January 2010.
