This competition is now closed. Find out who won here.
Here’s your chance to win something a bit different, a Cube Clock from Kim & Jason, a SciFi.co.uk goody bag and a 444ml Geek-Speak travel mug.
The cube clock is a great take on the usual alarm clock, mixing it with the stylings of a Rubik’s Cube. More details on what’s in the goody bag can be found here and, of course, you’ll want the mug for that first cup of coffee after your alarm clock goes off :)
How do I enter?
Just post a comment telling us your best childhood memory. It can be funny, a learning experience, or whatever you like.
Please have a quick read of my commenting policy and please bear in mind that only “top level” comments will be counted as entries. You can reply to someone else’s comment (and are encouraged to do so) but replies will not be counted as entries.
You can enter no matter where you are in the world. I will send the winner their SciFi goody bag and mug, and the clock will be sent direct from Kim and Jason.
How will the winner be chosen?
I will be using random.org‘s random number generator to pick a position in the list of comments… and the person at that position wins.
The competition closes at 00:01 (GMT) on the 28th of February, and the winner will be chosen and notified later that day.
That’s it, tell us your stories and good luck!

My overriding childhood memory was being scared of Wurzel Gummidge at a local event. Damn scarecrow!
Going to Grandma's on Boxing Day!
my best childhood memory after years & years of badgering my mum, she finally gave in and got me a kitten :-)
When I was younger, I really wanted a climbing frame but my parents couldn't afford one. My Dad was a builder and borrowed some scaffolding and set it up in the back garden. I was happy as a sandboy (or girl!)
My best childhood memory is having breakfast around the table with my Gran (who is sadly no longer with us). She would always put a little drop of Brandy in my cornflakes. It's the only way I would ever drink milk! I have to add that now I don't touch a drop of the stuff (milk or brandy)!
My best childhood memory is having jam roll and custard for pud. Somehow it tasted better than anything in the world. OK OK – so I've lead a sheltered life…
Putting pieces of lego up one nostril, and then holding the other nostril and blowing it out!! Funny till one piece wouldnt come out. My mum went mental while on the way to A&E!
Candyfloss at the annual Fair, I used to go home with a pink sticky face!
Putting pieces of lego up my nostril, and blowing it out to see how far i could get it!! The part I would rather forget though was getting dragged to A&E by my mum with a bit of lego stuck in my nose!!!
Canydyfloss from the annual “Fair” gorgeous!
surfing in cornwall
Dancing up Blackpool Tower in my fancy little red dress. I was five. =P
It would be my holidays to my grandparents farm, and how I would swim in the lake and collect the eggs and just have loads of land to play around in ^_^
My favourite memory was a day out at the local outdoor swimming pool with the whole familly. A fabulous picnic and beautiful sunshine. Great fun!
My x-wing cake with real figures baked inside my mum made for my birthday, and when fat simon tried to stuff so much of it in his mouth he nearly choked on luke skywalker!
My memory is of the rubiks cube… I sent days trying to figure it out then the answer came to me…
All it took was for me to accidently drop itdown the stairs and it exploding… After putting it back together again (complete) i went on to amaze my friends and became a hero for completing it… Best cheat of my childhood that :p
Proper snow and no noaning
I remember visiting a local cafe where if you ordered a glass of pop they gave you a paper straw – try as I might, I never managed to use the straw for the whole drink, the end of it (where you sucked it) would go limp. I used to try and tear a bit of the straw off but that wouldn't work either. The cafe owners were really tight fisted and would never allow customers another straw to finish their drink.
Being allowed one of the old bottles of Lucozade when I was poorly and looking at the world through the orange cellophane it came wrapped in
I never forget my first kiss with a girl at a valantines school disco when i was just 13. I was in love for the first time. ahhhhhhh
Running away from nursery! Seriously! I was five and did a runner at lunchtime. Poor dinner lady had to run & grab me!
I got into a few scrapes as a child the funniest being when me and my sister were being looked after by my aunty. There was some spare ground across from her house with some dirt hills with tomato plants growing on them. We decided that we would collect some for my aunty and ended up stuck in the dirt to nearly waist high and had to be rescued by the neighbours. My aunty was not impressed at all with us as we were absolutely caked in mud and took a lot of cleaning. We still think it was hilarious though.
Playing with my spacehopper on the beach and then crying as I watched it float out to sea !
Living down a long country lane, a taxi picked up the local school kids to take them to school. I remember vividly my younger brother falling out. he was OK though!
chocolate crunch and strawberry custard for school dinners! nom nom nom
On the beach with my gran, no specific memories just lots of recollections all fun together and a lots of general memories of being very happy.
It would have to be my 7th birthday. I had mainly boys at my party and one boy ended up putting 4 cakes on his plate instead of picking sandwiches etc to eat while another had stolen £5 out of his mums purse to give me as a present :)
The thing that always sticks in my mind was when I was about 13, I always had to tidy my room to get my pocket money. One week I really couldn't be bothered and my room was really, really messy but I wanted to go to the cinema with my friends so I picked everything up off the floor and put it under my duvet on the bed! My dad didn't notice and gave me my pocket money, obviously after I'd gone, my mum noticed straight away and told my dad off! lol
When I was 4 I got told off by my dad so I said I was leaving home to go to Australia.I went and packed my case which was almost as big as me and started off down the road. After watching me discreetly from the window and laughing their socks off my mum sent my dad to fetch me back but I refused to go back until my dad asked me how much money I had to get to Australia with and I said thruppence. Then with a very straight face my dad told me he was very sorry but the Fare to Australia was four pence so I decided to go home until I had saved another penny and then of course promptly forgot all about it as I went off to play with my friends.
How my dad managed to keep a straight face I will never know :D
I was at nursery aged 4 and mum had made me a crown to wear at our summer party. I was made of cardboard and silver foil, then loads of chocolate coins, jazzles and sweeties stuck on. B y the end of the party the crown had been destroyed as I had pulled all the sweets off to eat.
Helping my Dad in the garden, especially digging up potatoes, don't know why, I just loved being in the garden with him.
Getting lost at a busy market aged about 6 – I can still remember the fear
picking flowers from neighbours gardens to give to my mum, even though i got caught and told of again and again,I loved to my mums face when i gave them to her!
finally getting the typewriting I had asked for. I had asked for one for christmas for 2 years . I was 10 years old , it was brilliant and I still have it aged 43, don't use it now but can't get rid of it.
I remember being SOOO excited when I got a Raleigh Chopper for my 8th birthday. I was one of the first at our school to get one (and the only girl!) All my girl mates were more into Barbie & Sindy so I started hanging out with the boys instead! Fond memories :o)
My funniest memory is of locking my mum in the larder – apparently she could hear me playing and kept shouting but I would not let her out!! She only got out as a friend that she hadnt seen for years came round and heard her calling help out of the little larder window – luckily the front door wasnt locked!
When my parents got me a tiny tears dolly for christmas. I loved that doll
Having a massive water fight with my mates at one of their parties. It was such a cool party – it was circus themed.
