Win a Cube Clock and SciFi Goody Bag

by Chris on February 15, 2010

Cube Clock - just like a Rubik's Cube!

This competition is now closed. Find out who won here.

Here’s your chance to win something a bit different, a Cube Clock from Kim & Jason, a SciFi.co.uk goody bag and a 444ml Geek-Speak travel mug.

The cube clock is a great take on the usual alarm clock, mixing it with the stylings of a Rubik’s Cube. More details on what’s in the goody bag can be found here and, of course, you’ll want the mug for that first cup of coffee after your alarm clock goes off :)

How do I enter?
Just post a comment telling us your best childhood memory. It can be funny, a learning experience, or whatever you like.

Please have a quick read of my commenting policy and please bear in mind that only “top level” comments will be counted as entries. You can reply to someone else’s comment (and are encouraged to do so) but replies will not be counted as entries.

Geek-Speak.co.uk travel mugYou can enter no matter where you are in the world. I will send the winner their SciFi goody bag and mug, and the clock will be sent direct from Kim and Jason.

How will the winner be chosen?
I will be using random.org‘s random number generator to pick a position in the list of comments… and the person at that position wins.

The competition closes at 00:01 (GMT) on the 28th of February, and the winner will be chosen and notified later that day.

That’s it, tell us your stories and good luck!

My funniest memory is of locking my mum in the larder - apparently she could hear me playing and kept shouting but I would not let her out!! She only got out as a friend that she hadnt seen for years came round and heard her calling help out of the little larder window - luckily the front door wasnt locked!
  • I remember being SOOO excited when I got a Raleigh Chopper for my 8th birthday. I was one of the first at our school to get one (and the only girl!) All my girl mates were more into Barbie & Sindy so I started hanging out with the boys instead! Fond memories :o)

I was at nursery aged 4 and mum had made me a crown to wear at our summer party. I was made of cardboard and silver foil, then loads of chocolate coins, jazzles and sweeties stuck on. B y the end of the party the crown had been destroyed as I had pulled all the sweets off to eat.

When I was 4 I got told off by my dad so I said I was leaving home to go to Australia.I went and packed my case which was almost as big as me and started off down the road. After watching me discreetly from the window and laughing their socks off my mum sent my dad to fetch me back but I refused to go back until my dad asked me how much money I had to get to Australia with and I said thruppence. Then with a very straight face my dad told me he was very sorry but the Fare to Australia was four pence so I decided to go home until I had saved another penny and then of course promptly forgot all about it as I went off to play with my friends.
How my dad managed to keep a straight face I will never know :D

The thing that always sticks in my mind was when I was about 13, I always had to tidy my room to get my pocket money. One week I really couldn't be bothered and my room was really, really messy but I wanted to go to the cinema with my friends so I picked everything up off the floor and put it under my duvet on the bed! My dad didn't notice and gave me my pocket money, obviously after I'd gone, my mum noticed straight away and told my dad off! lol

It would have to be my 7th birthday. I had mainly boys at my party and one boy ended up putting 4 cakes on his plate instead of picking sandwiches etc to eat while another had stolen £5 out of his mums purse to give me as a present :)

I got into a few scrapes as a child the funniest being when me and my sister were being looked after by my aunty. There was some spare ground across from her house with some dirt hills with tomato plants growing on them. We decided that we would collect some for my aunty and ended up stuck in the dirt to nearly waist high and had to be rescued by the neighbours. My aunty was not impressed at all with us as we were absolutely caked in mud and took a lot of cleaning. We still think it was hilarious though.

I remember visiting a local cafe where if you ordered a glass of pop they gave you a paper straw - try as I might, I never managed to use the straw for the whole drink, the end of it (where you sucked it) would go limp. I used to try and tear a bit of the straw off but that wouldn't work either. The cafe owners were really tight fisted and would never allow customers another straw to finish their drink.

My best childhood memory is having breakfast around the table with my Gran (who is sadly no longer with us). She would always put a little drop of Brandy in my cornflakes. It's the only way I would ever drink milk! I have to add that now I don't touch a drop of the stuff (milk or brandy)!

Mine has to be what happened on one of our family days out! We'd gone to some woods for a picnic and my dad had spotted a squirrel on one of the trees. My brother couldn't see it as each time he looked the squirrel darted out of sight so he went over to the tree. When he got close to the tree he started going round it looking for the squirrel but the squirrel was going round the tree avoiding him, it was so funny watching my brother going round and round this tree chasing the squirrel and he never did see it! (it was one of those huge trees that look like they've been there for ever though in his defence of not seeing it!)

My sister had a go-cart, her friends had a big dog, they thought it would be a good idea to tie the dog (Monty) to the go-cart and one of us would get pulled along (me), this was great for a few yards, but Monty liked cats, spotted one and was off! My sister and her friends eventually found me in the next street, myself and the go-cart were wrapped round the lamp post, Monty was nowhere to be seen! My sister takes great pleasure in telling this story over and over even 35 years later!

My best childhood memory is from when I was about 5 - I woke up early one morning and got downstairs before anyone else and got stuck into a big box of chocs that had foolishly been left lying out in the open by mum!
Needless to say I was covered in chocolate and there were very few left when I was discovered :)

my childhood memory is when i got badly stung by a bee and my mum gave me the big barbie house 1 week early for my birthday i was soooooooooooo happy - think i probably forgot about the bee sting lol
  • Hmmm, "best" childhood memory... maybe just "most memorable" would be appropriate:

I remember waking up too early from an eye operation when I was 8 years old. It was at the Plymouth Royal Eye Infurmary and thankfully the nasty bit of the surgery had been completed, but I think I shocked the surgeon anyway! I screamed and screamed at the top of my lungs and to this day blame it on the fact they wouldn't let me have my favourite teddy bear with me!

When I woke up for the second time I remember colour was so much more vivid, so definitely worth it.

I'd fancied a boy from school for years and after a party he asked me to the movies the next night.

I wore my favourite stretch Ritzy skinny jeans, white trainers and multicoloured sailing jacket (it was the early 80's) and excitedly bounced to answer the door when he arrived. I was mortified to see that he had tunrned up in a suit and tie - he was 16 for goodness sake!
