Call for conversation: Which Twitter Client?

by Chris on May 13, 2009

Seesmic Desktop

Let’s try something new, a “call for conversation” if you like :) Comments are most definitely welcomed and if you know anyone who would like to offer an opinion please forward this posts’ address to them!

I just have a simple question. If you’re a Twitter user, which client do you use? Are you a purist (web-interface only)? Is TweetDeck your thing? Or do you tweet on the move with Twittelator? And while we’re thinking about it why not tell us what made you choose your particular client as well?

To kick things off, my preferred desktop client is Seesmic Desktop – an Adobe Air application that’s still pretty young (i.e. there are some features that are missing, like the ability to follow users in the application) but still manages to keep me coming back. I like that it can handle two or more Twitter accounts, but also has multiple columns and user groups.

And on mobile? I love Tweetie on iPhone – just because it’s simple and does everything I need it to with very little fuss.

So, over to you… what’s your favourite client? And what makes it so? Debate away :)

My favorite client is Tweetie for Mac. Its interface is just plain great, the way you can drill down through users is awesome, and you have all the controls you would online. Direct messaging is no longer a confusing stream of conversations like it is on Twitter.com, but now like an iChat conversation. I also love its small desktop footprint it takes up. Growl notifications are very nice as well. It may be young, but a lot of work has been going into it. Its definitely worth a look if you want a great native Mac Twitter client.

Well, on iPhone I think Twittelator Pro is best, but if you want a free client Twitterfon is hard to beat.

On Mac I tend to use Lounge which I like very much although it still has a little development required to be first class. As a side note, there is a Lounge client for iPhone and tweets read on one should be marked as read on the other. Nice!

On PC I use Tweetdeck or Twitterfox depending on screen real estate available.

Thanks for comments so far.

Justin: I like Tweetie for Mac too, it’s just so good-looking! I really need user groups though and haven’t found a way to do that in Tweetie. If it turns out I’ve just missed something though, and Tweetie can do that, I’d switch today!

Rob: Lounge sounds interesting – I hadn’t heard of that until you mentioned it. I’ll have to take a look!

Lounge is by Goose Apps if I recall correctly.
