Last evening I lost internet connectivity on my work computer and I just put it down to a local problem, thinking it would probably be sorted out in the morning.
My desktop PC at home did a Windows update before closing down. This morning, lo and behold, no internet connection. I realised that it must be something to do with the updates, and so rolled the PC back to before the updates and everything was fine again!
The problem is for users of Windows 2000 and XP using ZoneAlarm as a firewall - as my Vista laptop (without ZoneAlarm) was working perfectly. The simple temporary solution is to move the “Internet Zone” slider to medium, and possibly turn off automatic updates. The permanent solution is to have the most up-to-date version of ZoneAlarm before updating Windows.
