PMOG: Passively Multiplayer Online Game

PMOGPMOG is a multiplayer game, played by surfing the net. Sounds a bit bizarre, but let me explain more.

PMOG is an effort to make browsing the net more interesting by placing items and events on certain websites. So, for instance, at the moment there are a few crates of goodies hidden somewhere in Geek-Speak for PMOG players to discover. As well as goodies, though, players may leave portals (that jump you to another site), mines (that are meant to distract you), and lightposts that are meant to guide you to interesting or useful corners of the net.

So far so good, but there’s more: users can create missions that guide you through sites, giving clues along the way. Maybe there’s a big crate at the end of the trail. Perhaps there’s a mine. Perhaps there’s nothing but an interesting site. There are plenty of missions available and if there’s nothing to tickle your fancy there’s always the option of making your own mission up.

The only complaint I have about PMOG is that the game can be quite slow to update at times: for instance, stashing a crate of goodies on a website doesn’t necessarily show up straight away in your player profile, nor does the result of people looting your crates. However, since the site is fairly new and possibly experiencing higher than normal load, I’d be willing to wait a while and see if that kind of thing gets dealt with later.

So far, PMOG is proving to be an intriguing experience… not quite addictive, but interesting. If you want to play, and want to add me as an ally, acquaintance, or indeed enemy, my profile is here. Even if you don’t want to link up, try it out and see what you think.
