I love twitter and when I say love… I mean hopelessly addicted to it. For me it is a very effective way of keeping in touch we my peeps who are spread far and wide: Texas… Glenrothes… London… I know what folk are doing… it gives me a sense of connectivity… a sense of being part of something. I hold conversations… keep in touch with folks in hospital and when accidents happen.
The Twitter app on Facebook updates your status (see above) with your latest tweet… which kills two birds with the one text/online update. It also shows in your mini-feed (if you want it to) and adds to narrative of your life.
I tend to update twitter via text… or online… or by using a fab wee add-on for Firefox called twittytunes – its from the foxytunes folks – it allows you to tweet the song you are listening to… the website you are reading… or even post some free text. Its a sweet freebie thats an essential part of my firefox kit.
One twitter app worth checking out is twhirl – its a desktop client that runs on both Windows (2000/XP/Vista) and Mac OSX using Adobe Air. According to the blurb it…
* connects to multiple Twitter accounts
* notifications on new tweets
* shortens long URLs (using snurl or is.gd)
* cross-post updates to Pownce and Jaiku
* post images to TwitPic
I’m going to check it out and see how it works.
Another app that some of my Mac brethren use is twitterrific – it looks sweet and is pretty cheap ($15)… I haven’t checked it out yet… kind of happy with what I have… but as I get more addicted, I may drop the dough to up my fix.
I love this new twist too :: posting pics using twitpic. You upload a pic… put some blurb on it… and bud-a-bing a wee tweet appears announcing the pic to your peeps.
I’ll keep you posted with my adventures in twitter.
