Detect Wi-fi with your T-Shirt

by Chris on March 9, 2008

I really wish I could remember where I first read about this. I thought it was on BoingBoing or Cool Hunting, but I can’t seem to find the article on either of those two sites. So, apologies if you’ve already read about this recently!

Wi-Fi Detecting T-Shirt

No doubt you’ve already seen the T-Equaliser, a T-Shirt that reacts to ambient sound and displays a graphic-equaliser in LEDs on your chest. Well, here’s a variation on the theme that I think is pretty cool, the Wi-Fi Detecting T-Shirt. This tee contains the same kind of discrete battery pack at the T-Equaliser, but rather than reacting to sound levels, it reacts to the strength of any nearby wi-fi signals. It’s capable of detecting 802.11b and 802.11g signals (just in time for 802.11n :) ).

It’s available for £19.99 from Firebox, but the extra large size is out of stock at the minute (go figure). Firebox extols the virtues of being able to tell how strong a wi-fi signal is without having to get your laptop out (“kind of like being bionic” they say), but to be honest, that’s of less importance to me than the fact that I think this just looks pretty cool!
